Thirty-two finalists’ works for the Josephine Ulrick and Win Schubert Photography Award 2024 are now on display, representing Australian artists working in the broad medium of contemporary photography, including 2024 Award winner Merilyn Fairskye.
Fairskye’s work, Focus Infinity III (4.47am, 11 May 2024, Maralinga village), 2024, is a pre-dawn cloudscape, summoning memories of the mushroom clouds that loomed over Australia as a result of nuclear testing (1953–63). It’s part of the ongoing Long Life Project (2009–), which focuses on the global impact of the nuclear era.
