By merging traditional Kamilaroi diamond-shaped designs, hand-drawn symbols and repetitive patterning with contemporary mediums, such as printmaking, sculpture, video, painting and neon, Reko Rennie subverts romantic ideologies of Aboriginal identity.
With more than 100 works on display, including early paintings that translate the language of street art onto canvas, a fifteen-metre-wide light sculpture, a Rolls Royce covered in bold pink and black camouflage, and the world premiere of the artist’s latest large-scale figurative painting, this exhibition is Rennie’s largest presentation of work to date and his first-ever retrospective exhibition.
