Featuring 20 unframed woodcuts and linocuts on Chinese paper, ‘Enclosures and Other Spaces’ physically and psychologically charts the passage of time and evolving identity through existing, remnant physical structures.
“Through a body of work based on the ground plan of an enclosure, I aimed to express a feeling of reverence and a sense of being unencumbered. The enclosure became ‘a construct’ to house personal space. Its shape is based on the archaeology of a deserted chapel set in a walled courtyard, discovered unexpectedly while walking in the landscape, in Greece.” – Gary Shinfield.
