Geoff La Gerche: Landscapes Loved

Australian landscape artist Geoff La Gerche has a long history with the InterContinental Melbourne The Rialto. In the 1970s, the building was the headquarters for the Print Council of Australia of which La Gerche was the President. Today it showcases the artist’s landscape paintings – depictions of our vast continent.

For over a quarter of a century, La Gerche’s fondness for the Australian landscape has led him from the Victorian countryside to the Blue Mountains, outback Queensland, South Australia, Tasmania and the far north including Kakadu and the Kimberleys. His works – from faces, rocks and ponds, torrents of Australia’s waterways, or vistas of valleys in Australia’s north – have something of the colossal and the majestic.
