‘Thepa Mapa, Many Birds’ showcases new works by the Hermannsburg Potters. These iconic ceramics bring the brilliant desert sky, the soil, the sun, the birds, and the plants of Central Australia to Tasmania with the exhibiting space coming alive with vivid warmth, the exquisite detail, the richness of knowledge and the joys of storytelling that these beautiful works embody.
Senior artists Judith Pungarta Inkamala, Rahel Kngwarria Ungwanaka, Dawn Ngala Wheeler, Anita Mbitjana Ratara, and Hayley Panangka Coulthard celebrate their deep respect and appreciation for the unique and vibrant birdlife found in their stunning Western Arrarnta country with skillfully hand coil and pinched terracotta pots, painted with a colourful pallet of ceramic underglaze.
