Hossein and Angela Valamanesh: Grafting

Hossein & Angela Valamanesh are known for their installations, videos, objects and sculptures that combine and disrupt elements from nature and culture, reflecting on themes such as ritual, literature, science, belief and the human condition.

In this exhibition, the artists have collaborated to produce an enigmatic cast bronze series titled ‘Grafting’. Based on the ancient linguistic form of Runes – usually carved onto stones, and possibly one of the earliest known forms of written language – grids of abstracted markings have been constructed from cast bronze twigs and branches from their Adelaide garden. The artists play with the ideas of secret codes and lost translation, creating tension between linguistic foundations and the natural world.
