Ilona Nelson’s latest exhibition ‘This Wild Song’, currently on show at Town Hall Gallery, Hawthorn in Melbourne until 21 October is a vibrant celebration of women in the arts. As part of a long-term project to photograph 100 Australian female artists, Nelson presents over 25 portraits of women artists from diverse backgrounds working across a range of creative mediums, chosen for their unique artistic styles – channeled through the female lens. Nelson captures the essence of her subjects by infusing visual aspects, motifs and language drawn from their individual arts practice. The gallery’s After Dark event on Friday 5 October from 6-8pm pairs the exhibition with live entertainment by local musicians and offers visitors the chance to meet the artists and curators.
