Karla Marchesi – To Have and To Hold

Karla Marchesi investigates buildings in transition: abandoned houses, renovations, and destroyed homes.
By treating discarded objects with all the reverence of a traditional still life, her paintings convey a sense of unexpected beauty that emerges from a sense of place. The scenes of detritus are translated into objects of contemplation through the intricate style of realist painting.
Throughout the series of paintings in this exhibition we are compelled to pause and mediate on these objects, querying how they occupy space, and allowing them to inform us of the past.
