A series of large-scale installations by Karma Barnes, a New Zealand artist based on Bundjalung Country, and Robèrt Franken, a Dutch artist based in Wellington, New Zealand, encourage us to contemplate how external forces have reshaped our internal landscapes and terrains. At the exhibition’s core, earth pigments – the material, interface, and mediator through which different elements converge – collected from disturbed landscapes, including landslides and eroded sites, serve as a powerful medium, drawing attention to climatic events within the Northern Rivers region of New South Wales.
