Lilly Piri: exhibition.name

Lilly Piri creates her art on Wangerriburra country on Jambreen (Tamborine Mountain). Her practice has a strong focus on painting and mirrors her interests in still life, landscape and portraiture whilst also incorporating woodworking and colour pencil illustrations as her mediums. Her subjects are an assortment of cute animals – such as cats steadily gazing at the viewer and fluffy bunnies with upright ears and bow ties – and other various inanimate objects such as fruit, flowers, food and everyday items, as well as people she knows and self-portraits.

This collection of new works provides a glimpse into the everyday corners of her interior spaces as well as picturesque landscapes from national parklands to sandy beaches, framed in Piri’s unique and quirky, personal style.

In some works, the artist refers to current artmaking concerns such as AI-generated art and the artist’s role: If AI takes over, will artists still paint? Will they still want to create? Piri’s response is representative of her innate desire to create: yes.
