Western Arrarnta artist Albert Namatjira (1902–59) pioneered the Hermannsburg School art movement. Beginning painting at Ntaria Hermannsburg near Mparntwe Alice Springs in 1936, Namatjira is best known for watercolour paintings of Central Australia.
Inspiring contemporaries and generations of descendants, Namatjira works appear alongside watercolours by family members including sons Enos and Ewald Namatjira, son-in-law Benjamin Landara, and brother-in-law and ‘breakaway’ painter Otto Pareroultja. Judith Pungarta Inkamala ceramics and Carol Panangka Rontji pots demonstrate stylistic evolutions of the movement.
