A major gallery presents two filmic exhibitions with international artists this summer

The newly renovated Latrobe Regional Gallery is staging two filmic exhibitions with work from international artists this summer. ‘René Magritte: The Revealing Image’ looks back, presenting 132 photos and 18 films for the first time in Australia up until 19 November, in collaboration with the Surrealist artist’s (1889-1967) Belgian foundation. ‘Magritte used photography and film for a range of purposes, including as exemplars for paintings and commercial work, circumventing the need for live models, improvising scenes with friends, and recording family events and images of other Brussels Surrealists’, explains visiting Chief Curator, Xavier Canonne. Until 3 December ‘MINE/The Film will always be with you’ introduces new video art from South African artists including William Kentridge.
