Lee Sang Hyun’s first solo exhibition in Australia explores the representation, through images, symbols and concepts, of a Korean society who have endured extreme cultural, social and economic change. The works offer an alternative reality as it juxtaposes past and present to illustrate the rapid change in South Korean society over the last hundred and fifty years.
Digitally montaged works infused with vivid, bright pop colours depicting historical scenes filled with the stereotypical clichés of a highly technical, hybridised contemporary Korean society, explore the cultural loss of identity through the country’s modernisation.
