With a striking and unusual medium, Louise Saxton creates elaborate and luminescent depictions of Australian flora and fauna. Her work is constructed by pinning discarded needle-work to nylon tulle, appropriating this specialised medium to draw parallels between the fragility and beauty of both the technique and subject matter.
Her works reference early colonial painters, as well as domestic traditions and the idea of ‘home’, and the vulnerability of nature. She has extended her tactile and delicate medium to surprisingly large-scale pieces, which retain the quality of intricate and hand-made tactility.
