Weather Patterns III features the work of Melbourne-based artist Matthew Johnson with Indigenous artists Ronnie Tjampitjinpa and Rosella Namok; all work in the realm of nonfigurative abstraction, using imagery and designs to depict the climate of their surroundings in melodic patterns.
Johnson’s new paintings continue his interplay with the balance of light and dark through subdued pixelated oil colours. Namok’s landscapes depict tropical downpours over the ocean. And Tjampitjinpa’s circuitous designs echo billowing rain clouds dumping water onto mountains as it trails down to waterholes in an ancient landscape.
