Melbourne-based artist Michael Gromm’s work skilfully balances sweeping gestural marks and meticulously rendered forms through layers of fluid paint pours and tightly controlled patterns, often creating more questions than giving answers.
“My paintings are neither purely abstract nor figurative, instead I prefer they sit at the cusp, simultaneously becoming and disintegrating. I intentionally embrace an intuitive process-led practice in which forms are allowed to spontaneously erupt through fluid pours, some to be embellished and built upon, while many others are sacrificed under successive layers of paint,” the artist explains.
