In painting from memory and photographs (old prints, or saved from social media) of performances and cultural events Nick Santoro hopes to make these fleeting moments concrete. From the site itself to the tempo of a personal interaction the compositions inevitably respond to the cultures and subcultures that surround the artist. Santoro’s works offer an alternative to now ubiquitous forms of documentation, as well as present a real, not digital, window into the lives of others.
