Nyapanyapa Yunupingu is not bound by tradition. Remaining independent of the conventions and inherited clan designs of the Yirrkala region/Yolgnu people of Arnhem Land, her bark paintings are highly personal representations of stories and memories from her life experiences – both past and present.
Employing a muted palette of earth pigments ranging from white, black to various shades of ochre, Nyapanyapa creates a distinct display of unrestricted, aesthetic rhythm in mark making, complemented with figurative and abstract form and movement.
