‘Outstation’ features a collection of bark paintings by Ivan Namirrkki, Paul Nabulumo, John Mawurndjul and Owen Yalandja from Maningrida Arts & Culture presenting the legacy of their fathers, Peter Maralwanga (1916-1987), Mick Kubarkku (1922-2008), Anchor Kulunba (1917-1996) and Crusoe Kuningbal (1922-1984) – Kuninjku leaders and renowned artists who led the outstation movement to the west of Maningrida. The exhibition speaks to the power and importance of outstations, homelands and Country in the landscape of Australian Indigenous art practice.
