Paul Kemp has developed a sustained, articulate vision of the natural world over the last 30 years by taking the phenomena of sky, fire, wood, rock and water, and distils them to a common harmonious essence. Kemp’s painting enables us to reconsider our perceptions of nature in the light of essential unity.
Kemp focuses on perceiving the evidence of physical influences on the landscape despite superficial disparities. Depicting the symmetries between microcosms and macrocosms of the landscape, a growth of lichen becomes trees and cliffs, which in turn transform into swirling flames. Each facet of nature is analogous, as each is formed by a common rhythm of forces.
