‘At first glance Paul’s meditative brushwork and his assured use of a limited palate provides us with an immediately rewarding consolation. Viewers can imagine themselves enjoying a landscape vista, lazing in a sunny park by the beach, kicking the footy, or even being estranged and alone in a glass mansion. These literal representations of the familiar are also — in a theoretical context — a starting point for investigating the more complex cultural and poetic concerns driving Paul’s work’ – Dave Murray (poet and university medallist with a PhD in creative writing)
