Paul Yore: Obscene

Paul Yore delves deep into Western culture and beliefs, exploring language and the role it plays in shaping perceptions of individuality, time, reality and our sense of place in history. The textile artist takes inspiration from classical Greek art, Flemish and French tapestries, ‘trashy’ pop-culture, porn, cartoons, psychedelia, and the Rococo style. ‘Obscene’ displays embroidered surfaces from textual needlepoint to collaged appliqué adorned with buttons, hand-sewn beads and sequins that suggest a sense of queer frivolity, yet beneath this veneer is a colourful but complicated picture of identity.
