Portrait23: Identity

Portrait23: Identity redefines portraiture by inviting twenty-three artists and collectives to create portraits without constraints or boundaries. As such, the exhibition exposes new approaches to the genre across a range of mediums, not only painting, drawing and photography, but also street art, suspended textiles, performance, ceramics, bronze, and soft sculpture.

These works focus on the power of storytelling, with deeply personal evocations of themes that resonate collectively, such as cultural knowledge, the body, feminism, visibility/invisibility, activism, community, legacies of ongoing colonisation, and journeys of migration.
