Rory Garland’s artworks exhibit deep personal realisations, paired with primitive, monotonous mark-making techniques that are, to him, a form of meditation.
Here, Garland explores visual themes of philosophy, nature, culture, and human consciousness. The exhibition’s title, Thou Art That, derives from Hindu scripture and philosophy, which translates to “You are That.” This phrase expresses the idea of a fundamental unity between all things, including the divine and the individual self, suggesting that the true nature of the self is an aspect or reflection of the divine.
