‘Self-made: zines and artist books’| Exquisite DIY artist books to radical low-fi zines

‘Self-made: zines and artist books’ showcases the eclectic world of independent publishing from exquisite DIY artist books to radical low-fi zines all on show at State Library Victoria until 12 November.

In partnership with The Sticky Institute, ‘Self-made’ presents over 170 works including rarely-seen material from the library’s collection providing a history of the magazine sub-culture and its affiliation with influential counter-cultural movements and social activism.

A dedicated reading lounge and guided tours are on offer as well as ‘Zine-making: words + art + identity’, a hands-on workshop for secondary students exploring art and zines from medieval times to today’s scene until 10 November. The exhibition will tour regional galleries in Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland and South Australia from July 2018 to November 2019.
