Shaun Gladwell: AFGHANISTAN

Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre and the Australian War Memorial this week opened ‘Shaun Gladwell: AFGHANISTAN’.

One of Australia’s preeminent video artists, Gladwell’s work in this exhibition focuses on the bodies and movement of everyday soldiers, and the way they are trained to observe and quickly respond to foreign environments.

Presented for the first time, video portrait of Victoria Cross recipient Corporal Mark Donaldson VC is included in this exhibition at the Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre which is on display for the first time. Gladwell’s unique portrait is a meditative study of Corporal Donaldson gazing out across an Australian landscape from a Black Hawk helicopter.
