A collection of Australian and international artists’ books are going on display at Australian Galleries, Melbourne, after a successful showing at Gallery Central, Perth, curated by David Forrest of Gallery East, Western Australia. The artists work across printmaking, textile, sculpture and digital art. Forrest added that, “Artists’ books challenge the notions of the traditional book. Books, as objects become more than containers of information, but works of art in themselves. While many artists are concerned with content, whether it be images, ideas or inventions, others use a wide variety of media and ways to create a completely new artwork.”
This iteration is a collaboration between the spaces and will include new books from Australian Galleries’ represented artists Deborah Williams, Geoffrey Ricardo, Heather Shimmen, Rosalind Atkins, Graeme Peebles, Fairlie Kingston, Peter Kingston, Daniel Moynihan, Garry Shead and Barbie Kjar. ‘Between the Sheets’ will be on view from 13 June to 2 July.
