Celebrating 21 years of this eclectic movement, the ‘Alice Springs Beanie Festival: Colours of the Country III’ is this year boasting a collection of over 6,800 head warmers from Australia and abroad at the Araluen Arts Centre from 23 to 26 June. A host of special events will take place including artist demonstrations, and workshops; wet felting, needle felting, knitting, crochet, beading, dying, weaving, print making and wearable art, as well as basket making with the Tjampi Desert Weavers. In an attempt to make the longest beanie in the world, visitors are invited to drop by and make their mark, the aim being to create a 400-metre-long beanie and land a Guinness World Record.
