Some mysterious process: 50 years of collecting international art

Curated by Michael Brand, Director, Art Gallery of New South Wales, ‘Some mysterious process’ examines what and how the institution collects. It’s a window into the confluence of planning and serendipity, curation and philanthropy, and the evolution of societal expectations, shares the gallery. This free exhibition will showcase work from more than 50 highly regarded artists including David Hockney, Yves Klein, Rachael Whiteread, Cy Twombly, Bridget Riley, Yinka Shonibare, Dana Schutz, Anish Kapoor, Tracey Emin and Philip Guston, who inspired the exhibition title in musing – ‘There’s some mysterious process at work here which I don’t even want to understand.’
