In Silent Sentinels, Sophie Carnell’s sculptures draw attention to some of Bruny Island’s most vulnerable plants, creating a near “herbarium with the plants all handmade in silver,” explains Hadley’s Director of Art and Cultural Experiences, Dr Amy Jackett. Small, often unnoticed plants have been enlarged “so you can appreciate the details of the minute flowers,” Jackett adds.
Carnell explains: “I’m seeking to instil a sense of wonder and joy in the small and disregarded plants that our heavy feet have pushed to the very edge of existence.”
