The announcement of the winners for the ‘John Leslie Art Prize 2014’ which will be made at Wellington Shire Council’s Gippsland Art Gallery by the Hon. Peter Ryan MP, Deputy Premier of Victoria, at the official launch on Friday 19 September at 6pm.
The ‘John Leslie Art Prize’ is one of Australia’s most prestigious non-acquisitive prizes for landscape painting, and consistently attracts the highest calibre of artists working in Australia.
Wellington Shire Council Mayor, Cr Scott Rossetti, says “For the first time since the Prize began in 2000, we invited artists to enter more than one work, with 96 choosing to enter two. This year, the Prize attracted more entries than ever before, with 416 entries received from 320 artists, from which the shortlist of 35 entries from 34 artists was made.”
“The Prize is made possible by the generous ongoing support of Gippsland Art Gallery’s long time Patron, Mr John Leslie OBE. Mr Leslie’s original vision for the Prize was to foster and encourage high quality painting, specifically in the Gippsland region.”
