Sydney Design Week

“Sydney Design Week celebrates designers who are defining the cultural moment in Sydney and around the world. This year’s theme ‘Making Now’ expands the parameters of ‘design’ to explore myriad expressions across disciplines and industries. The program will set the scene for the future of design.” – Stephen Todd, Sydney Design Week Creative Director.

Exhibitions, talks, film screenings, workshops, collaborative projects, and tours presented across Sydney design hubs between 15 and 22 September 2022 will shine a light on the knowledge, ideas, and talent of local, national, and international designers, the role of design, and the extraordinary scope of innovation it can deliver.

At the Powerhouse Museum in Ultimo, design enthusiasts can set their sights on exciting new work by Australian designers in the New Australian Design exhibition, and listen to a keynote from Mumbai-born Nipa Doshi of London-based design studio Doshi Levien about the importance of cross-cultural perspectives when designing for leading manufacturers and cultural institutions. Ace Hotel Sydney poses as a backdrop for the presentation of a series of talks and workshops exploring the importance of design and creativity in the urban context and restaurant design, while interior designer David Flack, Powerhouse Creative Industries Resident Nell, designer Elliat Rich, and sculptor Sanné Mestrom look at pre- and post-industrial creativity.

Making Western Sydney combines a walking tour of the major new architecture around the Parramatta CBD with an afternoon of public talks and a live-streamed presentation on the new flagship Powerhouse Parramatta with architects Moreau Kusunoki (Paris) and Genton (Sydney).
