New Director Kerri Glasscock has announced program highlights and a refocused vision for this year’s Sydney Fringe Festival. The Festival, which celebrates the experimental, grass-roots cultural heart of Sydney, will present over 300 ticketed productions and a free events program at more than 60 venues across Sydney.
Festival Director, Kerri Glasscock is seeking to refresh and refocus the Sydney Fringe Festival by connecting with new audiences and expanding the program to include thousands of local and international artists through a diverse range of art forms including theatre, music, comedy, visual art, film cabaret, musical theatre, dance, circus, literature and poetry. The 2014 program also includes a new focus on family events as well as new elements such as light installations and public forums.
Local communities, small businesses and Sydney nightlife will also be engaged through a series of dynamic street activations, laneway bars and public artworks which will be covering Paddington, Darlinghurst, Surry Hills, Redfern, Chippendale, Glebe, Annandale, Leichhardt, Marrickville, Sydenham, St Peters, Newtown, Erskinville and Enmore.
“At Sydney Fringe Festival, we revel in mining the streets to see what’s bubbling beneath the surface of the city. We’re seeking to embrace the artists who create the most magical moments; who reside in tiny secret venues, who push the boundaries of an art form; and who work tirelessly for their craft and shape the cultural identity and heart of our city,” says Glasscock.
