the churchie emerging art prize 2021

‘Across Country, materiality, and form, on display is the best of contemporary art in Australia,’ says Institute of Modern Art Director Liz Nowell, about the churchie emerging art prize 2021. Curated by Grace Herbert, the finalists’ exhibition presents compelling and diverse artworks produced by 14 emerging artists and surveys pressing artistic concerns, following a year of extraordinary events. Spanning various media: painting, sculpture, video, printmaking, ceramics, and installation, these works reveal common themes, including diasporic experience, First Nations sovereignty, and the political and social conditions of contemporary life.
