Australia’s Newell Harry participate’s in ‘The Oceanic’

Artists, filmmakers, composers and researchers focus on the Pacific in this exhibition which addresses large-scale human interventions in oceanic ecospheres, in particular the long term affects of nuclear experiments – asking who owns the ocean, who are the regulators and spotlighting the fatal affects of the global carbon footprint. Australian artist Newell Harry’s work was inspired by the concept of the Kula Ring, a ceremonial exchange system practiced in the Trobriand Islands, and will exhibit alongside an international cohort at the NTU Centre for Contemporary Art Singapore until 4 March. For the show the participants went on expeditions to Papua New Guinea, French Polynesia and the Fijian Lau Islands, hosted by Thyssen-Bornemisza Art Contemporary.
