Tony Smibert: Tao Sublime

Tony Smibert is a leading Australian watercolourist who has long been inspired by the sublime; a philosophy developed in the eighteenth century to describe the overwhelming sense of nature’s power. Drawing on English watercolourist JMW Turner’s work and eastern painting traditions, Smibert created a series of visually striking and emotive abstract landscape works, many of which are on public display for the first time.

The exhibition invites viewers to absorb the philosophy of the sublime through engagement with Smibert’s creations.
