‘Wild Flowers’ presents 50 works by Australian botanical illustrator Vera Scarth-Johnson (1912-1999). Compositions of native flora from the Endeavour River (Waalumbaal Birri) in Far North Queensland, rarely seen floral arrangement paintings, sketchbooks, drawings, photographs and records of correspondence with leading botanists and herbariums across the globe fill this exhibition. On show for the first time outside of Cooktown, these are some of the finest works by Scarth-Johnson highlighting her unique ability to represent form and detail in luminous colour.
