The history of 19th century Australian art is recast in this epic presentation of historical and contemporary work created by more than 170 artists from across Australia. By placing a range of Indigenous and non-Indigenous works side by side for the first time, ‘Belonging: Stories of Australian Art’ reconsiders Australia’s history of colonisation through a visual narrative of its impact and ongoing effects, from traditional European depictions of Australian landscapes void of First Nations people to contemporary works representing Indigenous perspectives.
