Winners of the ANL Maritime Art Award announced

Joel Rea has taken out the 2013 ANL Maritime Art Prize with his work ‘Collision’, announced at a gathering of 300 people at the Historic Mission to Seafarers Victoria. He receives $15,000 for his efforts in the major prize, with a number of artists receiving awards for other categories.

Rea has spent his life by the ocean, absorbing his surrounds and responding, as evident in his winning work. In ‘Collision’, the landscape can be interpreted as both collapsing into self in American magazine Art Business as one of 30 artists under the age of thirty who are revolutionizing the world of fine arts.

The ANL Maritime Art Exhibition  is the Mission to Seafarers Victoria’s biggest fundraiser for its charity and welfare services. A premier representation of this art genre, the Exhibition is an annual celebration of maritime art with the recurring theme of the relationship between humanity and the sea.
