Nominations for the second annual artsHub awards are now open. Developed in 2011, the awards are intended to recognise both creation and support in the arts industry, of work that is “exciting, engaging or simply excellent”. The awards seek to promote engagement with the arts, and to encourage creativity and achievement in a diverse range of activities. The 2011 awards saw a great first response, with 72 shortlisted finalists and 6 winners. There was a broad range of entrants, from the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, to Leigh Pyman who won the People’s Choice Innovation Award for his interactive learning resource Phonetic Pillows.
The eight categories for the 2012 artsHub awards are: The Youth Arts Award, Emerging Artist Award, The Emerging Company Award, The Innovation Award (group and individual awards), Contribution to the Australian arts community (group and individual awards) and the artsHub Engagement Award. There are two awards in each category; a Critics’ Choice (selected by a panel of industry judges) and a People’s Choice (by popular vote), so there are plenty of opportunities to recognise a group or individual who has made a valuable contribution to the arts industry.
