Sculpture at Scenic World welcomes Justin Morrissey as the new Exhibition Manager. Justin will bring experience and a fresh perspective to showcasing dynamic and diverse artistic practices at Australia’s only dedicated rainforest exhibition.
Justin has a strong background in sculpture, having managed installations at Sculpture by the Sea for seven years. He has also contributed to the Cairns Indigenous Art Fair, curating the show, Re-imagining Roy McIvor, which brought private and Queensland Museum collections to the Cairns Regional Gallery.
He has also attended recent sculpture residencies in the USA and Germany, and aims to use his connections to increase the exposure of Sculpture at Scenic World to international audiences.
The new appointment coincides with the open call for submissions to exhibit in the Jurassic landscape for the 2015 Sculpture at Scenic World in the Blue Mountains.
“I will be encouraging artists locally, nationally and internationally to submit their wildest and most wonderful ideas to be presented in this pristine rainforest environment,” Justin said.
The new submission guidelines include:
· Artworks must have been created within the past two years and can have been previously exhibited;
· Successful artists will have the opportunity to produce small-scale works for Sculpture Otherwise which will be exhibited for the first time at the Blue Mountains Cultural Centre;
· The Scenic World $20,000 Major Prize will no longer be acquisitive.
Now in its fourth year, Sculpture at Scenic World will exhibit from 15 April to 10 May 2015. The call for submissions follow Scenic World’s commitment to extend the outdoor exhibition for at least three more years after the significant success of the past three events.
Sculpture at Scenic World has supported more than 100 exhibiting artists with almost 160,000 people riding the world’s steepest railway down to the Jurassic rainforest to view the sculptures.
The deadline for Sculpture at Scenic World 2015 submissions is Monday 20th October 2014. The successful artists will be notified on Monday 3 November 2014.
