COMA’s warehouse transformation

On 31 January 2025, COMA unveiled its new gallery space on Chapel Street in the heart of Marrickville, Sydney. Inspired by the major warehouse-style galleries of Los Angeles, the 490m² space was a former coffee factory warehouse; now transformed into a cutting-edge contemporary gallery, featuring an expansive exhibition space, private viewing rooms, on-site storage and merchandise space.

Founded in 2016 by Sotiris Sotiriou, COMA is interested in bridging the local and global art scene gap, with artists represented including Nick Modrzewski, Mia Middleton, Shan Turner-Carroll and, recently, Puuni Brown Nungarrayi.

Australian-born, Santa Fe-based Justin Williams opened COMA’s new space with Waiting for Lavender, a solo exhibition of new paintings with themes of migration and belonging, reflecting on the universal longing to settle and find a place to call home. On view until 22 February.
