Melissa Egan: Paintings From The Island

The appeal of Melissa Egan’s visual storytelling stems not only from her diverse subjects – human and animal – but equally from her expressive depiction of them. Humorous, improbable juxtapositions cast a glow that counteracts the prevalence of today’s more sombre concerns. With animated, spontaneous brushwork, saga and landscape are fused in a radiance of subtle grandeur or gentle intimacy. Egan’s works transport us far from the everyday, into another world where notions of time and place have long since dissolved, where everything has a story, each creature, tree and stone.
