Olive Cotton (1913–2003) is recognised as one of Australia’s most significant photographers, notable for images that highlight the immersive qualities of photography. She was also a leading figure in the development of modern art in Australia, a contribution that we are only beginning to fully appreciate.
Curated by Shaune Lakin and Anne O’Hehir, this National Gallery touring exhibition brings together, for the first time, Cotton’s photographs and the work of her international peers and key modernist photographers – including Dora Maar, Berenice Abbott, Lucia Moholy, Edward Weston, and Tina Modotti.
