Tasmanian figurative painter Nathan Grey is known for using minimal marks to capture a person’s gaze, gesture, and mood.
Featuring new works mostly painted from life, in as it is the artist distils his practice to play and a problem-solving exercise. “With nowhere to hide, proportion, colour, and tone become ever so important,” Grey says about the works. “Sometimes removing a mark holds more weight than adding one.” Inclusion of bespoke hand-carved bowels, Grey says, offers insight to an area for future focus.
