Fourteen years in the making and arguably the largest linear oil painting created in Australia, Italian-born, New South Wales artist Salvatore Zofrea’s sweeping panorama Day Cycle narrates – in one hundred panels – the changing effects of light on the natural world.
Spanning more than thirty metres and divided into four phases, colours are built through inspiration drawn from musical scores by composers such as Frédéric Chopin and Claude Debussy; his use of lapis lazuli intensifies luminosity, enhancing the cycle’s radiant effect.
