The Ken Done Gallery is pleased to share a number of the artist’s new works in its current exhibition. These showcase Done’s unique use of colour, investigation of form, and reflect his unfailing optimism for life. This extensive exhibition is largely reflective of Done’s love of his immediate surroundings with emphasis on his coastal home. And, of course, depictions of his much-loved underwater world. The Gallery is very excited to announce that the Art Gallery of New South Wales has recently acquired one of Ken Done’s early paintings as part of its contemporary Australian art collection. Sunday, 1982 is currently on exhibition in the AGNSW. If you fall in love with this painting, a print, in three sizes, of Sunday is available in the Ken Done Gallery store, as is a range of Sunday product. A new publication, Poems from Home, is available for sale in the Gallery shop along with limited edition prints and art-related products.

Each year the Gallery’s panel is invited to go behind the scenes of the judging process for the annual Archibald Prize for portraiture and Wynne Prize for landscape painting and figure sculpture at the Art Gallery of New South Wales, to select an exhibition from the many hundreds of works entered in both prizes but not chosen for the official award exhibition. June 25 to Nov 8 BLACK MYTH – group show. Exploring the darker side of myth in the modern world, Black Myth draws inspiration from the viral video game Black Myth: Wukong, 2024, a contemporary retelling of the legendary novel Journey to the West. Echoing its spiritual quest, the exhibition traces the concept of the journey in many forms – from physical travel to time travel, from internal odysseys to cosmic voyages. The artists in this exhibition show us that sometimes we must pass through the darkness to get to the light.
