Simon Terrill: Crowd Theory Adelaide

‘Crowd Theory’ series is an ongoing series of photographic performance events exploring ideas of community and the nature of crowds. The photographs are created by bringing together up to 400 people in a specific site and randomly orchestrating the positions of their bodies in the space, to explore and expand upon the notion of community and crowd behaviour.

The resulting large-scale photographs portray how the site-specific venues are significant to large groups of people, as well as how the inhabitants of these spaces contribute in defining the space. Terrill brings together performance, visual art, and community engagement, to harness the emergent energy of a crowd, and document the convergent forces of people and place.
