2013 Head On Photo Festival

‘Head On Photo Festival’ is Australia’s largest photograph festival and the second largest festival of its kind in the world. Now in its fourth year, ‘Head On’ celebrates a wide range of photography across all genres from photojournalism and reportage through commercial to fine-art.

With over 200 events at 100 venues, the 2012 festival was a resounding success and set the stage for this year’s growth and development.

Events and exhibitions are spread across Sydney from the CBD extending into the suburbs across north, south, east and west of the city. Aside from traditional venues such as art galleries and museums, exhibitions and events are set in less formal venues such as cafes, pubs and Centennial Park. Most events are free of charge and include indoors and outdoors exhibitions, workshops, artists’ talks, open studios and a 2 day seminar. With the diverse range of venues, events and photography, ’Head On Photo Festival’ really does offer something for everyone.
At the heart of the festival is the ‘Head On Portrait Prize’ which is the nation’s most significant and innovative showcase for Australian portrait photography, reflecting a diverse cross-section of new and traditional photographic practices. It is the most critically acclaimed photographic portrait competition in Australia

The Festival began in the last week of May and continues through June. The full program of events and exhibitions is available online at the festival’s official website.
