Piet Noest: all about art

In this exhibition, Noest presents a thirty-year retrospective of paintings, pastels and Digital Serial Images, divided chronologically into different periods of the artist’s development. Some of the themes that arise are atmospheric landscapes, still life, portraits, figures, a move towards abstraction, localised environment: Margate Beach, Moreton Bay, hinterland, and work produced on a study trip to Europe in 2012.

Noest’s most recent paintings document the rugged, mountainous landscape of Norway. Capturing just a moment of the timeless interaction of geology, water and weather is the artist’s goal in these works. He says that, “the objective eye – to see past the surface and discover what is underneath” is his goal. “The human being confronting the landscape comes first – that’s always been the case.”
